“Spiritual formation is the process whereby the Holy Spirit transforms us into Christlikeness to the glory of our Father.”
Robert Solomon, “Growing the Soul in Postmodern Soil – Spiritual Formation in the Twenty-first Century”, in The Church in the 21st Century Singapore.
Considering Dr Solomon’s definition, spiritual formation is not just about prayer. Whilst prayer is a vital component, spiritual formation encompasses far more than prayer!
Its four emphases:
(1) It is trinitarian in orientation
(2) It focuses on process (it’s not a program)
(3) Its goal is Christlikeness (not personal fulfilment or ministry achievements)
(4) It is primarily through the work of the Holy Spirit in/on us (not just my disciplines and efforts)
A ‘starter’ on your journey to Christlikeness is the SF 101 Retreat. We are looking forward to conducting the final SF 101 Retreat for 2019 as follows:
