The 11th Session of the General Conference (GC) of the Methodist Church in Singapore (MCS) will be held in two parts, the first from 12-16 September 2016 in Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church and the second part from 1-2 December 2016 in the Methodist HQ in Barker Road.
In a regular session of GC, activities include the revision of church laws, approval of work plans, budgeting funds for church-wide programs, as well as adoption of resolutions on moral, social, public policy and economic issues.
Proposals to make changes in our Church are sometimes initiated by the Annual Conferences, pastors as well as lay people from the local churches. One of the highlights of a GC is the debate to consider Petitions. Any person wishing to propose changes may submit petitions to GC.
The petitions must comply with these conditions [¶207 of BOD]:-
- Three copies of the petition must be sent to the Secretary of the General Conference or a designated petitions secretary.
- Each petition must address only one paragraph of the Book of Discipline or, if the Book of Discipline is not affected, one issue.
- Each petition must be signed by the person submitting it; accompanied by appropriate identification, such as address, local church, or Methodist board or agency relationship.
- Petitions must be received by the petitions secretary no later than 60 days prior to the opening session of the General Conference (14 July 2016).
If anyone wishes to submit a petition, please mail it before the deadline to:- The General Conference Secretary of the Methodist Church in Singapore, 70 Barker Road #06-04 Methodist Centre Singapore 309936.
