1. Why are we redeveloping the Church?
The present Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church building was built in 1980,
with a sanctuary to house up to about 350 church-goers. Over the last
30 years, our three congregation have grown to nearly 1700 members.
(TRAC = 1000; CAC = 500; ETAC = 150)
2. What will be the extent of the redevelopment?
We are on lease-hold land of 99 years and still have 69 years of left on the current site. Our present Church building was built on a plot ratio of 0.6596 with a built up area of 31,066 sq ft. We intend to build up the new Church building to the maximum approved plot ratio of 1.4 with a built up area of 65,933 sq ft. and our intent is to maximize the permissible plot ratio.
3. How much will it cost?
The estimated cost of the entire redevelopment is $18 million.
Since the Church building is shared by three Churches,
a) Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church (TRAC - English)
b) Ang Mo Kio Chinese Methodist Church (CAC)
c) Ang Mo Kio Tamil Methodist Church (ETAC),
the cost of redevelopment will be shared according to the membership ratio of the three churches. Aside from the individual Churches having to raise their allotted cost of the redevelopment, there is also a combined effort from all the three churches represented by the Joint-Management Committee (JMC) to help raise the funds too.
Thus the total cost of about $18 million will be divided into four parts. The following is the breakdown :-
a) Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church (TRAC - English)
= $6,918.600
b) Ang Mo Kio Chinese Methodist Church (CAC)
= $4,954.300
c) Ang Mo Kio Tamil Methodist Church (ETAC),
= $ 780,300
d) Joint-Management Committee (Combined efforts of the 3 Churches)
= $5,000.000
4. What is the Joint Management Committee (JMC)?
Members of the JMC comprise of the core leaders from the three Churches. The responsibility of the JMC is to manage our Church building facilities, the usage as well as any related ministry and admin matters that concern the three Churches.
5. Why are we giving again? Is this current Fundraising Project by JMC another Church Redevelopment Project?
No. This is not another church redevelopment project but a joint effort by the three Churches represented by JMC. Thus far, all the existing fundraising efforts are the individual Churches’ effort at raising their own share of the total cost of $18 million. (Please see Q3 for your own Church’s share of the total cost of about $18 million)
In this launch of the JMC Fundraising, it will be a combined effort from all the three Churches. Ultimately, this $5 million will contribute towards the total cost of about $18 million that we are all trying to raise together as one Church represented by our three congregations.
6. How is the Joint-Management Committee (JMC) Fundraising efforts different from that of the other three Churches?
In order not compete with the individual Churches’ various fundraising events and activities, JMC will focus its’ fundraising efforts mainly through asking members and friends of the three Churches to donate or sponsor items related to the new Church Building. For example, sponsorship of Bricks, Pews & Commemorative Board, Rooms, etc... In other words, JMC’s Fundraising efforts will not compete with the individual Churches’ fundraising which is event or activity based.
7. Can I name my company name instead of my own name when sponsoring a brick, pew or inscription on the Commemorative Board?
Yes, you may and we would even accommodate if you wish to name your donation after your family name, cell Group or Ministry Group.
8. Can I have my name inscribed in Chinese or Tamil Characters other than English?
Yes, you may.
9. It was requested that all payments be made by cheque, why can’t I pay with cash?
We apologize for the inconvenience as presently due to the lack of manpower, we are not able to accommodate cash payment. Aside from the issue of lack of manpower, this is also to reduce the risk of losing money as well as to provide an easier and more effective accounting process.
Please note that all payment by cheque to JMC CRP must be written in favor of “Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church Building Committee”.
Please indicate clearly the items that you are sponsoring at the back of your cheque.
10. Can I pay by credit card?
So sorry, at the moment we have no facilities to accommodate such request.
11. Can I do a bank transfer to the JMC CPR bank account?
Yes, you may. However, to ensure that your money is accounted for, please call up our JMC Admin Assistant, Ms Jaclynn Lim at 64522791 from 3 Aug 09 onwards and she will advise you what to do.
12. Can I arrange for my donation to be paid in installments? If yes, how long am I given?
Yes, you may make arrangement for your donation to be paid in installments. You have up to 31 Mar 2010 to do so. Please call our JMC Admin Assistant, Ms Jaclynn Li to make the arrangement from 3 Aug 09 onwards.
13. Do I have a say as to where my sponsoring brick, pew or commemorative board is to be placed in the new Church?
To facilitate ease of administration, we hope you could trust and leave it to the discretion of the JMC on such matters. However, we wish to assure all who have sponsored that we will do our utmost best to have all the sponsored items placed in a significant and meaningful location in the New Church building.
14. Is there a deadline for JMC CRP to raise this $5 million?
Yes we are hoping to raise the $5 million by end of Oct 09.
Should you have any questions pertaining to this JMC Church Redevelopment Fundraising Project that are not answered in the above, please do not hesitate to ask your Pastors or leaders of your Church.
We hope you will give us your heartiest support and please remember that the success of this fundraising project is equally important to that of your own Church’s fundraising efforts. Let’s all rise up to the call from God and enlarge this Church for HIs Glory!
