“Now is the Time”

Message from Rev Stanley Chua, Oct 2008

[continue from main page]

Our dream is that we will also be like the early Methodists who love God so passionately.

One of our dreams is to capture the passion of dynamic worship of the early Methodists. Charles Wesley composed hundreds of hymns that are still sung and relevant today. We dream of growing a 100-member strong choir in our Church, backed by a full orchestra to aid our traditional worship service every Sunday. We dream of a contemporary worship service where we use modern creative arts, media and music to help our young generation of worshippers worship God passionately.

We dream that we will be able to disciple two thousand people through our three core discipleship curriculum : MasterLife, Disciple and Companions-in-Christ.

We dream of growing 300 cell groups where every member that we received in this Church will be able to experience true community; be nurtured and cared for in these cells like what the early Methodists did in their bands and classes.

Our Dreams To Love God Passionately

To Capture the Passion of Dynamic Worship

To Disciple

To Experience True Community Life

These are but a few of our dreams. Looking at all these dreams that we have, we know that if God were to fulfill all our dreams today, our Church with its present facilities would not be able to support all these ministries. That is the reason why, after much prayer, we believe God has call us to a new journey of faith.

Today marks an important milestone for our Church. We are embarking on a significant step like what our pioneer leaders did 30 years ago in obedience to God’s call to birth this Church.

This time, we believe God is calling us to continue this legacy of faith by enlarging our Church for His glory.

This means tearing down this old Church building and building a brand new one doubling the present size. Yes, today marks our journey of faith as we launch this project to raise $18 million to enlarge our Church for God’s glory.

Our theme verse for our Church Redevelopment is taken from Isaiah 54:2 which says,

“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch you tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.”

In the days of Isaiah, this call was given to the Israelites in the midst of desolation where their nation was destroyed by their enemies. But God did not forget His people ad this was a call and a promise that God made to the remnant of Israel that they will once again be replenished and the country peopled again. To prepare for this promise, God commanded them not only to repair the ruins of Jerusalem but that the suburbs of it should be extended on all sides and a great many buildings erected upon these new foundations.

Whilst our situation is not entirely similar with the Israelites, nevertheless, we have some similarities. Like the early Israelites we are living in tough times especially with the impending economic downturn looming over us. In spite of this fact God has called us to rise to build for the future.

We know that the task of raising $18 million dollars to redevelop this Church is a sizeable amount and a daunting one. We also know that there will never be an appropriate tie to raise funds. Despite all these foreboding circumstances, we believe that God has called us to take on this challenge for the future.

The God we serve is a living God where nothing is impossible with Him and He has always taught us to live by faith in Him and not by sight.

Therefore my hope and prayer is that as a Church we will all rise to this challenge and be a people who will not only love God passionately with all our hearts; but we will also be a people full of faith in god to pledge and give as God convicts our hearts, trusting that God can do the impossible through us.

So now is the time to arise and honor God and even as we honor Him to enlarge this Church for His glory, I believe God will honor us too.

To Him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen!
