FUNDRAISING FAQs
Why are we redeveloping the Church?
We believe God has given us a vision “To be a people after God’s heart by capturing the passion of the early Methodists.”
This is a vision of growth where we hope to be like the early Methodists growing in seven key areas namely: Word, Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, Evangelism and Prayer.
The present Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church building was built in 1980, with a sanctuary to house up to about 350 church-goers. Over the last 30 years, our congregation has grown to nearly 1000 worshippers, this does not even include the additional 700 members from the other two Methodist Churches (CAC & ETAC) sharing the same building with us.
Right now, our Church facilities are being used to their maximum. Furthermore many parts of our 30-year old building are showing wear and tear, it cost much more to maintain an old building. As a result, we believe God has called us to arise and redevelop the Church by raising a new building to fulfill our vision for future growth.
What will be the extent of the redevelopment?
We are on lease-hold land of 99 years and still have 69 years of lease left on the current site. Our present Church building was built on a plot ratio of 0.6596 with a built up area of 31,066 sq ft. We intend to build up the new Church building to the maximum approved plot ratio of 1.4 with a built up area of 65,933 sq ft. and our intent is to maximize the permissible plot ratio.
How much will it cost?
The estimated cost of the entire redevelopment is $18 million.
Of this, $5 million will be raised by the Joint Management Committee with help form all. (The Joint Management Committee, or JMC, oversees the management of the Church building and is made up of representatives from the three Churches).
The remainder of the sum to be raised will be split proportionately among the three Churches according to congregation size. As such, our portion is approximately $7 million.
When will the new building be ready?
We hope to raise all the required funds by July 2010 and prayerfully we can begin construction by end 2010. The whole rebuilding process should take between 18 months to 2 years. The new building should be ready by end 2012, barring unforeseen circumstances.
What can I do to help?
First and foremost is prayer - this is a mammoth challenge and we realise we cannot do it without God’s help. Therefore, we appeal to you to pray and ask God to give us His grace, wisdom and provision to fulfill this challenge that He has given us.
Secondly, through giving of your money - no amount is too small or too big and we pray that you will give cheerfully and generously as God convicts your hearts.
Finally, through participation and involvement - we will be organising a few other fundraising activities and we hope that you will make every effort to participate and give us your support.
